Is politics service or career? The question is not as straightforward as it seems.
Ask a question to any politician, why did you choose politics? For service, or for career? Believe me, his answer will be, for "service". Because even by mistake if "career" is spoken, then really even his political career can be in danger.
The meaning of saying here is that as the country has progressed, along with the changing times, the political players have also changed their clothes. To say that the purpose of politics is to fulfill public interests by a person imbued with the spirit of "service". But when this "service" turned into "career", it was not known.
In today's era, politics has become a pure business, lakhs of crores of rupees are spent just to gain a foothold in it. If your existence is a bit light, and you want to start your election journey with the symbol of a party, then people are already standing in queue for funding crores of rupees in that party office. Even if you win this race with fair-price-punishment-discrimination, now the arrangements for publicity and rallies are also going to come into your account, this is also worth lakhs and crores.
See the irony, that after all this, or should we say, after losing, the public expects "service" from that politician? So can there really be "service" from that politician in reality?
Democracy gives equal status to every person, but in a country where 80-90 percent of the total wealth is in the hands of a few capitalists, and out of a population of 140 crores, eighty crore people are limited to five kilos of food grains, how many people there? It can be well understood that we will be able to walk with equality in a democracy. Overall, the key to the lock of the country's democracy is only with the capitalists, lakhs of common people bang their heads on that lock, but it will never open for them. As long as this inequality persists, it would be meaningless to call this democracy a democracy in the true sense.
After saying all this, the conclusion comes here that politics is only a game of a few rich. Political careers are made and spoiled here. The general public hardly has anything to do with it. The general public is probably made only to vote, and is also continuously performing its duties with the hope that there will be such a politician, who will not consider politics as a "career" but consider it as "service". The question is complicated, but waiting to be solved.
Returning again I repeat the same initial question to you whether present politics is service or career?
I think you will be able to answer this better now.
